Why sign up?

With the Paris Olympics now in the history books, the countdown to LA28 has officially begun. But before there will be an LA28 and before there was an LA84, there was LA32—the Tenth Olympiad in 1932. With LA32 Games you’ll receive short articles and old photographs delivered once or twice a month about those first Los Angeles Olympics. We’ll learn about the athletes, the venues, the city, Olympic innovations, and much more. Hopefully it will make you sound, as they say in my native Maine, wicked smaht.

Who am I and Why LA32 Games?

I’m a published author from New England who calls California home, and who, despite running collegiately, got no closer to the Olympics than the Junior Olympic variety. I have been fascinated with the Games since watching the drama of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics—Carl Lewis flying around the Coliseum track and through the air; fellow Mainer Joan Benoit winning the first women’s Olympic marathon; and Mary Lou Retton making me care about gymnastics. But it is the earlier 1932 Olympics that I have researched and written a forthcoming book about in advance of the 2028 Games. I hope you enjoy reading these stories.

What Some of My Readers Are Saying

“The level of depth that Josh Hanna puts into LA32 Games is astonishing. (His writing) is well researched and surprisingly wide-ranging, from athlete profiles to explorations of the politics and culture around the competitions. If you enjoyed Malcolm Gladwell’s two podcast series on Hitler’s Olympics and the sprinters of the 1968 Games, you’ll love LA32 Games.”

Sam Robinson, author of Footnotes

“Josh's writing about Olympic subjects is thorough and well-researched. Best of all he is a story teller.”

Timothy Genske, author of Ourlympics
